A few months back our area suffered a major flood — state of emergency was issued — we lost our new laminate basement floor and a big chunk of the walls. Luckily we weren’t quite finished it so we didn’t have a lot of property lost, mostly stuff still in boxes from our last move or being stored.
Our neighborhood for weeks looked like a war zone. Piles of ruined furniture, flooring, drywall, etc. lined the streets as garbage services slowly removed the debris and scavengers (humans, not raccoons) routed through the garbage like something out of a post apocalyptic survival movie.
Months later we are almost finished again, porcelain tile floor this time. Absolutely beautiful, it looks like old warn wood. My wife has taken to musing that the flood was meant to happen, so that we would get a floor that we really love.
Down side is our contractor has forbidden walking on the new floor until it’s complete and my workout room is through that door!
I can’t get to my weights!
Looks like I’m going to have to resort to body weight exercises in the living room for a couple of days.
